Workstation Installation Instructions
This should be
installed by your network administrator.
If your PartBase PRO CD
version is 1.0.012 or later, proceed to Setup
Workstation Instructions.
If your PartBase PRO CD
version is 1.0.011 or earlier, it is recommended you use the Workstation
Setup program for easier setup. However you may still use the following
procedure.
Since the program and data files
reside on the server, you will only need to install the DLLs on the
workstation.
It is also recommended that you
map a drive letter to the shared folder on the server. It is best to use a
consistent drive letter on the workstations. You can map the drive before or
after running the setup program. If you mapped the drive prior to running the
setup, you will be able to choose this drive as the Destination
Location during setup and the shortcuts and icons will be pointing to the
correct location. If you map the drives after the setup program you must delete
the PartBase PRO icon that was created on the desktop and create a shortcut to
the PBasePRO.exe file on the server through the drive mapping.
You may also use the UNC path
("\\server_name\shared_folder\PBasePRO") to the server shared folder.
But it is recommended to use a mapped drive letter so the average user can
locate the "PbasePRO" folder easier. Whichever method you use, make
sure it is consistent with all the workstations accessing PartBase.
By inserting the PartBase PRO
CD-ROM, the setup program should automatically start up. If it does not start
up, double-click on "My Computer" on the desktop and double-click the
CD-ROM. When the CD-ROM file contents appears, double-click on "SETUP.EXE"
to launch setup program.
1.
Welcome - This is the first screen of the
install process. It is recommended that you exit all Windows programs before
continuing the setup process. Click Next to continue.
|
2.
Software License Agreement - Please read
the license agreement for the PartBase PRO software. Click Yes to accept
agreement and continue with the installation. |
3.
Choose Destination Location - The
default installation folder is "C:\Program Files\PBasePRO".
To select a different location, click on Browse.
A "Choose Folder" dialog box will appear which will allow you to
select the folder to install to. If the folder is not "PBasePRO",
it will create a PBasePRO folder within the folder that you chose.
If the shared folder on the server is
already mapped to a drive letter, select the shared folder. If
the drives are not mapped yet, you can just hit Next to continue. Nothing
will be installed in "C:\Program Files\PBasePRO". You will have
to manually create a shortcut to PBasePRO.exe on shared folder
later.
Click next to continue. |
|
4.
Select Components - When installing to the workstation, uncheck
Program Files & Data Files.
You will be installing only DLLs and
Libraries.
Click Next to begin
|
5.
Select Program Folder - This is the
name of the folder/menu option that will be created in the Start/Programs
menu.
Several PartBase icons will be created in
this folder. If you already mapped the drive to the shared folder and you
chose the shared folder as the Destination Location, then the icons will
be pointing to the correct folder. If you are creating your drive mapping
later, you will have to go back and edit the icons properties to point to
the correct folder
Click Next to begin the installation
process. |
|
6.
Installation Progress Bar - A progress bar will appear while
the files are being installed.
|
7.
Setup Complete - You will then see
this screen after a successful install.
Click "Finish" to complete setup
and close the setup window. |
8.
Start Menu Icons - If the icons are
added in the Star/Programs menu, this window will open. Also a PartBase
PRO icon will be created on the desktop.
If you already mapped the drive to the
shared folder and you chose the shared folder as the Destination Location,
then the icons will be pointing to the correct folder. If you are creating
your drive mapping later, you will have to go back and edit the icons
properties to point to the correct folder
|
| 9. Map
drive to the shared folder
If you already mapped a drive letter to the
server, skip to step 10.
Create a drive letter mapping to the shared
folder where the "PBasePRO" folder is installed.
You must then edit the existing PartBase icons with the new locations, or
create a new shortcut to PBasePRO.exe on the shared folder. |
| 10. Registering
PartBase PRO - Only the FIRST workstation is necessary to be
registered. Once the first one is registered, the next workstations
will not see the registration screen.
Launch PartBase by clicking on the PartBase icon
on the desktop, or using the Start/Programs/PartBase PRO menu.
Depending on your PartBase version, you may
have several days to register and may start using PartBase right away. You
can go to the registration screen later by clicking on About from
the PartBase Menu and clicking on Registration in the About
window
If you
see "Demo Expired" or "Program Expired", click
"Ok" to open "Registration" window
